about
Utpanna Ekadashi falls on the eleventh day of the dark fortnight of Margashira and is regarded as the day the Ekadashi fast began. The legend says Ekadashi Devi was born from the energy of Lord Vishnu and defeated the demon Mura. Many devotees take their first Ekadashi vow on this day.
In the legend, the demon Mura defeated the gods and then came to attack Lord Vishnu as he rested in a cave. A goddess appeared from Vishnu and killed Mura. Vishnu named her Ekadashi, since she was born on that day, and blessed those who fast on it.
