about
Sattila Ekadashi, also called Shattila Ekadashi, falls on the eleventh day of the dark fortnight of Magha and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It takes its name from tila, the sesame seed, which devotees use that day in bathing, offerings, food and charity while avoiding grain.
The name Sat-tila means six uses of tila, the sesame seed. Traditions trace the practice to a teaching given by the sage Pulastya on how sesame should be used on this day.
