about
Rama Ekadashi falls on the eleventh day of the dark fortnight of Kartika, a few days before Dipabali. It is named for Goddess Lakshmi and is kept for the grace of Lord Vishnu and for prosperity. Devotees bathe early, fast, chant and keep a night vigil. The story told for it is of King Muchukunda and his son-in-law Shobhana.
The katha tells of King Muchukunda, his daughter Chandrabhaga and her husband Shobhana. Shobhana was frail and died after keeping the fast under pressure, yet he received a heavenly kingdom, which Chandrabhaga's own merit later made lasting.
