about
Papankusha Ekadashi falls on the eleventh day of the bright fortnight of Ashwina and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Its name joins the words for noose and goad, and the day is read as Vishnu loosening the hold of sin. Devotees fast, keep a night vigil, recite the Vishnu Sahasranama and give in charity.
The katha tells of Krodhana, a cruel hunter of the Vindhya hills, who feared death and Yama in old age. The sage Angira advised him to fast on this Ekadashi to be freed from his sins.
