about

Papamochani Ekadashi falls on the eleventh day of the dark fortnight of Chaitra. Its name means the one that frees from sin, and devotees fast, worship Lord Vishnu and give in charity to be free of accumulated wrongs. The story told for the day is that of the sage Medhavi and the apsara Manjughosha.

In the katha, which Krishna tells Yudhishthira, the sage Medhavi, son of Chyavana, has his meditation broken by an apsara sent by Indra. After many years with her he curses her, and both are then advised to fast on this Ekadashi and are freed from the curse.
