about
Mohini Ekadashi falls on the eleventh day of the bright fortnight of Baisakha. Its name recalls the form of Mohini that Lord Vishnu took to help the gods win the nectar during the churning of the ocean. Devotees fast, worship Vishnu, keep a night vigil and give in charity, seeking forgiveness and liberation.
The name comes from Mohini, the female form Vishnu took during the churning of the ocean to give the nectar of immortality to the gods. A second tale tells of a king who kept this fast and was freed from sin.
