about
Khalilagi Ekadashi is the Ekadashi of the dark fortnight of Ashadha, called Yogini Ekadashi in other calendars. Devotees fast and pray to Lord Vishnu in the belief that the day cleanses sin. The legend told for it is of the gardener Hemamali, who is said to have been freed from illness by keeping this fast.
Khalilagi is the Odia name of the Ashadha Krishna Ekadashi, which falls before the Ratha Yatra and is called Yogini Ekadashi elsewhere. The usual katha tells of the yaksha Hemamali, cursed by Kubera with leprosy and freed after fasting on this Ekadashi on the advice of the sage Markandeya.
