about

Kamada Ekadashi falls on the eleventh day of the bright fortnight of Chaitra, and its name means the one that grants wishes. Devotees fast and worship Lord Vishnu in the belief that the day destroys sin and fulfils wishes. The best known part of its legend is the Gandharva couple Lalit and Lalita.

Its katha tells of the Gandharva Lalit, cursed by King Pundarika of Ratnapur to become a man-eating demon. His wife Lalita keeps this fast on the advice of a sage and gives its merit to him, and the curse ends.
