about

Harishayan Ekadashi, also called Devashayani or Ashadhi Ekadashi, falls on the eleventh day of the bright fortnight of Ashadha. It marks the start of Chaturmas, the four months in which Lord Vishnu is said to rest on the serpent Shesha in the cosmic ocean. Devotees fast, worship Vishnu and give in charity.

This Ekadashi is the day when Vishnu is said to begin his yoga nidra, a rest of four months, and it opens the Chaturmas period. It is called Devshayani or Harishayani Ekadashi in many parts of India.
