about
Baruthini Ekadashi, also spelled Varuthini, falls on the eleventh day of the dark fortnight of Baisakha. Lord Vishnu is worshipped on it in his Vamana form. Devotees fast according to their capacity, avoid grain and give in charity, in the belief that the day removes sin and brings protection.
According to tradition, Krishna described the merit of this Ekadashi to King Yudhishthira, an account attributed to the Bhavishya Purana. The name Baruthini is linked to the idea of being armoured or protected.
