about

Kaliyadalan Ekadashi, known in other calendars as Aja Ekadashi, falls on the eleventh day of the dark fortnight of Bhadraba and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Devotees fast and keep a night vigil. The story told for the day is of King Harishchandra, who is said to have regained his kingdom and family by keeping this fast.

On this tithi (Bhadrapada Krishna Ekadashi) other regions keep Aja Ekadashi. Its katha tells of King Harishchandra, who lost his kingdom and family, and who regained them after a sage advised him to keep this fast with a night vigil.
