Siddha Bhairavi

about

Siddha Bhairavi is a Tantric Shakta goddess worshipped at Mantridi, near Berhampur in Ganjam district. Her stone image has one leg and four hands, so she is also called Ekapada Bhairavi, and the figure is crude and partly sunk in the ground. According to the temple's story the image was found in a ploughed field and installed in the sanctum in 1937. Devotees hold that she will accompany the Kalki avatar at the end of the Kali Yuga. Pilgrims visit on Tuesdays and during Durga Puja.

mythology

Bhairavi is one of the Dasa Mahavidyas, the ten wisdom goddesses of Shakta Tantra, a fierce form of the goddess associated with the destruction of ignorance. Siddha Bhairavi is the local form at Mantridi, and the Ganjam district account says the place is named after her.
