Ekamra Anubhav

Ekamra Kshetra, the historic temple landscape of Bhubaneswar, is widely recognised as one of the most significant sacred urban sites in eastern India. With hundreds of temples built over many centuries, the region has long been studied for its architectural, religious, and historical importance. Yet beyond the physical monuments and documented histories lies another layer of heritage that is equally vital — the stories, beliefs, and mythological narratives that local communities have preserved and passed down across generations.

In 2022, Ekamra Anubhav was conceived as an effort to document these narrative traditions associated with the temples and the surrounding sacred spaces. The initiative brought together researchers, writers, and cultural enthusiasts to collect and present mythological accounts, local legends, and interpretive stories connected to the temple landscape. Rather than focusing solely on historical chronology or architectural analysis, the project attempted to capture how these narratives continue to shape cultural memory and devotional imagination in the region.

Through a curated collection of stories, Ekamra Anubhav sought to record and present the mythological imagination surrounding Ekamra’s temples in a form that remains accessible to contemporary readers. By documenting these narratives, the initiative contributes to preserving an important dimension of Odisha’s cultural heritage — the storytelling traditions that have long animated the sacred geography of Bhubaneswar.
