When it comes to love, Lord Shiva has always been the one to break stereotypes & show the world what it means to devote yourself to someone else. It gives us such a blessed feeling that Ekamra Kshetra was able to be a part of that divine union. Have you ever been to the Bhabani Shankar Temple in the Old Town of Bhubaneswar? Well, that is the solid proof of divine union etched in Ekamra’s history.
Searching for peace & serenity, Lord Shiva fled from Kashi towards the south of Bharat Varsh. He found His tranquillity in Gupt Kashi aka Ekamra Kshetra & entered his meditative state. Looking for Him, Devi Parvati, with the help of Lord Brahma, also settled in Ekamra as a Gopaluni. While living in her disguise, the two demon brothers got attracted to her beauty and….. Well, you know the story.
Now, in continuation with our previous post, Devi Parvati killed the two demon brothers, Kriti & Vasa, by vanquishing them to hell. After killing them, the tired devi decided to take some rest under the shade of a nearby tree. Lord Shiva, in his meditative stage, got to know all of the events & found Devi resting nearby. He sat by Her leg & started massaging Her feet to make Her feel comfortable. That particular moment got highlighted in stories, praising the cosmic union of Bhabani & Shankar.
The present Bhabani Shankar Temple, which is under the protection of the state authorities, is believed to be standing at the spot where the divine couple reunited after a long time. The temple also has an idol of Devi Parvati in Sayan Mudra with Lord Shiva in His Linga form at her feet.
