Ghantaburi
about
Ghantaburi is a goddess named in the local and folk tradition of Odisha. Her name appears to join ghanta, a bell, with buri, an old woman or elder. Published sources on this shrine are scarce, and no temple record, scripture or dated history could be found, so this entry is limited to what the name and the wider tradition indicate. Worship of goddesses honoured with bells is known in Odisha, for example at Ghanteswari in Chiplima, a separate temple near Sambalpur where bells are offered after wishes are fulfilled.
mythology
No scriptural source, origin legend or dated history for Ghantaburi was found in the sources consulted, and none is supplied here. The community-compiled note places her on a hill near Bhalumunda in Balangir district, but this could not be confirmed against any independent source.
