Buddhanath

Buddhanath is a Shiva temple at Garedi Panchana village in Balipatna block of Khurda district, about 22 kilometres from Bhubaneswar. It is dated to the twelfth century. Wikipedia attributes it to Chodaganga Dev of the Somavamsi dynasty, though that attribution is uncertain. The temple is described as built on Tantric principles, and a tradition of healing from snakebite is attached to it, which is local belief. Mahashivaratri is the usual occasion for pilgrims to offer water and bel leaves to the deity.
