Mayadhar Mansingh (1905–1973), reveredly known as Kabi Mayadhar Mansingh or the "Poet of Love and Romance," is celebrated as one of the most prominent lyricists, intellectuals, and literary historians of Odisha. Born in Nandala, Puri, he attained a doctorate from the University of Durham, combining a deep scholarly grounding with an intense romantic sensibility. Mansingh revolutionized modern Odia poetry by infusing it with vibrant lyricism, deep emotional authenticity, and humanistic passion, producing iconic collections such as Dhooba, Hemapuspa, and Konarka. Beyond his poetic achievements, he was a giant of Odia letters—authoring the comprehensive History of Odia Literature for the Sahitya Akademi, editing the monumental Sankhipta Odia Jnanakosh (Odia Encyclopaedia), and championing educational reform and cultural identity. His monumental literary legacy as both a passionate romantic poet and an authoritative historian remains a cornerstone of 20th-century Odia literature.
