Krupasindhu Mishra

Pandit Krupasindhu Mishra (1887–1926) was an eminent Odia historian, scholar, educator, and nationalist who stood as one of the five core luminaries of the Satyabadi Panchasakha alongside Utkalamani Gopabandhu Das, Pandit Nilakantha Das, Godabarisha Mishra, and Acharya Harihar. Born in Bira Ramachandrapur village (Puri district, Odisha), he dedicated his short yet brilliant life to historical research, value-based education, and regional revival. Serving as a revered teacher and later as Headmaster of the historic Satyabadi Bana Vidyalaya, Krupasindhu Mishra believed that a true understanding of heritage was essential for instilling national self-respect. He holds an iconic place in Odia historiography for pioneering meticulously researched, engaging historical treatises written in elegant Odia prose. His monumental masterworks include Konarka—a seminal monograph detailing the history, art, and architectural majesty of the Sun Temple—and Barabati, an authoritative historical study of the famous Cuttack citadel. He also authored Utkala Itihasa, a comprehensive historical narrative of Odisha designed for students and readers, along with insightful biographical essays. Tragically passing away at the young age of thirty-nine, Pandit Krupasindhu Mishra’s scholarly rigor, historical vision, and contributions to the Satyabadi movement remain an enduring legacy in Odia literature.
